How long does it take to get a hearing on a Social Security disability claim?

Video Transcription

The time for having a hearing scheduled on a social security disability claim varies from state to state and region to region as well as city to city. In the city of Tampa currently, it is about 18-22 months right now from the time that we do a request for hearing before the hearing is actually scheduled. However, keep in mind there are ways to try to get a decision before you actually have a hearing scheduled. Once you’re at the hearing level, meaning that request for hearing has been filed, you do have the 18-22 month wait if you’re gonna wait for a hearing. During that process, if all of the necessary medical information has been gathered and the necessary information from your doctors may be in the form of other forms that we need from them, we can do what’s called an On The Request … On The Record Request to the judge and may be able to get you a favorable decision prior to having to go to a hearing.
