Wesley Chapel’s recent business expansions in the last few years has really brought the traffic to Wesley Chapel. With the opening of the Tampa Premium Outlets and the Shops at Wiregrass Ranch, more and more people have been flocking to the area. The influx of visitors to Wesley Chapel has caused a major increase in automobile traffic to the already busy roads of I-75, Wesley Chapel Blvd (SR 54), SR 56, and Bruce B. Downs.
Countless other business, such as restaurants, retails stores, hotels, and housing communities, are wanting to leverage Wesley Chapel’s growing popularity and set up roots near the SR 54 / SR 56 corridor. However, SR 54 is the busiest road in Pasco County east of U.S. 19 and additional people entering Wesley chapel roadways, specifically on SR 54 and SR 56 approaching the I-75, means an increased chance for automobile and truck accidents. Backups on SR 54 and SR 56 directly cause bottlenecking and backups on I-75 exit ramps. The traffic congestion and accidents in this area has been in the Tampa news over the past year.
Just last April 2018 a seven-car pileup at the intersection of SR 54 and Curley Road, approximately 2.5 miles from I-75, resulted in a state trooper being ejected from his motorcycle. In short, these roads are dangerous. The diverging diamond interchange construction that began last year (2018) is supposed to help alleviate some of the backup to and from I-75 ramps, but more and more traffic in Wesley Chapel still poses a serious risk to drivers.
